Veterinarian / Co-Owner – Small Animal General Practice

JOB-5565

The Job Opportunity:
An established and growing AAHA-accredited small animal practice is seeking a Full-Time Veterinarian / Co-Owner to join its collaborative medical team and participate in a meaningful equity ownership opportunity.

This position is designed for a veterinarian who is ready to take the next step beyond an associate role and become actively involved in the clinical and strategic direction of a veterinary hospital.  The incoming veterinarian will join an established practice with a loyal client base and an experienced team already in place. Rather than building a hospital from the ground up, the new partner will have the opportunity to step into an existing caseload while helping guide the practice’s continued development.
The ownership structure provides the veterinarian with a meaningful equity position and participation in the hospital’s growth and financial performance. The veterinarian will have a voice in decisions affecting medicine, equipment, staffing, scheduling, hospital culture, and future development.  Clinical autonomy is central to the opportunity. The veterinarian will be trusted to use evidence-based medicine, professional judgment, and individual patient needs to determine appropriate diagnostic and treatment plans.

For a veterinarian who has considered practice ownership but would prefer to pursue it with an established team and additional business support rather than independently, this position provides an opportunity to combine medicine, leadership, entrepreneurship, and long-term professional growth.

Practice Information:
This AAHA-accredited small animal general practice provides comprehensive veterinary care within an established and growing hospital environment.  AAHA accreditation reflects the hospital’s commitment to maintaining rigorous standards across important areas of veterinary medicine, patient care, safety, and hospital operations.  The practice has an established client base and provides the incoming veterinarian with the opportunity to build lasting relationships with patients and families rather than developing a caseload from the beginning.

The hospital’s approach to medicine emphasizes:

  • Evidence-based clinical decision-making
  • Meaningful veterinarian autonomy
  • Individualized patient care
  • Strong client relationships
  • Collaborative case management
  • Comprehensive small animal medicine
  • Routine surgery and dentistry
  • Professional development
  • Sustainable practice growth
  • Doctor involvement in hospital decision-making

The veterinarian will have the freedom to make appropriate medical decisions based on each patient’s needs without rigid clinical protocols or production-driven limitations on patient care.

The practice also provides business and operational resources designed to support the veterinarian as both a clinician and practice owner. This allows the doctor to remain actively involved in ownership decisions while having access to experienced resources for the administrative aspects of veterinary practice management.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Provide compassionate, evidence-based veterinary care for small animal patients
  • Perform comprehensive physical examinations and wellness visits
  • Develop individualized diagnostic and treatment plans
  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic medical conditions
  • Provide preventive medicine throughout all patient life stages
  • Perform routine soft-tissue surgical procedures
  • Provide comprehensive dental care and procedures
  • Make independent clinical decisions based on professional judgment and individual patient needs
  • Educate clients regarding diagnoses, treatment options, preventive care, nutrition, and long-term health
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical records
  • Collaborate with veterinary colleagues and support team members
  • Refer patients for specialty or advanced care when appropriate
  • Maintain medical standards consistent with the hospital’s AAHA accreditation

Leadership & Ownership Responsibilities:

  • Participate actively in the clinical and strategic direction of the practice
  • Help establish and maintain high standards for evidence-based medicine
  • Contribute to decisions regarding medical equipment and clinical resources
  • Participate in veterinarian and support team hiring decisions
  • Help guide scheduling and clinical workflow decisions
  • Support the continued development of a positive hospital culture
  • Mentor and collaborate with veterinary and support team members
  • Identify opportunities to enhance medical services
  • Participate in practice planning and performance discussions
  • Help guide responsible hospital growth while maintaining medical excellence
  • Contribute to decisions affecting the practice’s long-term direction
  • Balance clinical priorities with responsible business stewardship
  • Participate in continuing education, leadership development, and professional growth

Job Applicant Requirements:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), VMD, or equivalent degree from an accredited institution
  • Active veterinary license or eligibility to obtain appropriate state licensure
  • Small animal general practice experience
  • Comfort with routine soft-tissue surgery
  • Comfort with general dentistry
  • Commitment to compassionate, ethical, and evidence-based veterinary medicine
  • Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills
  • Strong interpersonal and client communication skills
  • Collaborative approach to working with veterinary colleagues and support team members
  • Ability to practice with appropriate clinical independence
  • Genuine interest in veterinary practice ownership
  • Interest in contributing to the long-term development of a veterinary hospital
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Commitment to continued learning and professional development

This opportunity is particularly well suited for a veterinarian who wants to build and influence a practice rather than simply work within one. Previous ownership experience is not stated as a requirement, and leadership development and mentorship are available to support the transition into partnership.

Compensation & Benefits May Include:
The practice offers competitive compensation designed to recognize the veterinarian’s clinical contributions as well as the additional opportunities associated with practice ownership.

The overall compensation and ownership structure may include:

  • Competitive veterinarian compensation
  • Performance-based earning opportunities
  • Meaningful equity ownership
  • Distributions based on hospital performance and ownership participation
  • Long-term equity value creation
  • Structured financing support for the ownership investment
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Retirement benefits
  • Paid time off
  • Continuing education support
  • Leadership training
  • Mentorship from experienced veterinary practice owners
  • Professional development resources

The ownership structure is intended to be transparent, with information regarding the investment, financing options, practice performance, and potential distributions discussed during the evaluation process.

The veterinarian will have the opportunity to participate directly in the hospital’s growth and long-term value while benefiting from established operational resources and leadership support.

For an experienced veterinarian interested in clinical autonomy, AAHA-accredited medicine, leadership, and genuine practice ownership, this opportunity provides the ability to help shape an established hospital while building long-term professional and financial participation in its success.
