About Sterling Recruiting Services

About Us

Sterling Recruiting Services is a network of independent recruiting professionals.  We partner with private and corporate practices worldwide to offer career opportunities in the veterinary and human health industries.

With no cost to job seekers – or pressure – our recruiters provide discreet, individually tailored career guidance, prioritizing the unique goals, values, and aspirations of every professional we serve.

Background

Sterling Recruiting Services was built on a foundation of service, relationships, and the belief that the right opportunity can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life.

Sterling’s parent company was founded in the early 2000s by a former U.S. Army veteran who wanted to help fellow service members successfully transition from military service into civilian careers. Over time, that mission expanded to support military spouses and families and, eventually, a much broader community of professionals looking for the next step in their careers.

As Sterling grew, so did the industries it served. To date, the company has supported organizations and professionals across aerospace, engineering, accounting, veterinary care, and human healthcare. While each industry is different, Sterling’s approach remains the same: understand the people behind the résumé and the organization behind the job description, then make thoughtful introductions that have the potential to become lasting professional relationships.

Sterling has also grown into a network of talented recruiters who work independently while sharing the company’s commitment to relationship-driven recruiting. This model gives recruiters the freedom to focus on positions, candidates, and organizations they are genuinely excited to support, creating a more personal experience for everyone involved.

Despite that growth, Sterling has never forgotten where it started. The organizations the company partners with understand its longstanding commitment to supporting the military community—and many share that commitment themselves. Sterling continues to do everything it can to help veterans and military families receive the opportunities, consideration, and support they deserve.

At its heart, Sterling Recruiting Services is about making connections, opening doors, and introducing talent to opportunity.

Meet our Managing Partners

Julie Vaughn Sterling Recruiting

Julie Vaughn

Julie Vaughn began her career in staffing at just 19 years old while attending the University of Washington in Seattle, where she earned a B.A. in Economics. After graduation, she was introduced to the veterinary profession while working in the recruiting department at Banfield’s corporate headquarters.

Throughout her career, Julie has moved between two professions she loves—recruiting and education. She earned a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Alaska Southeast and spent time as an educator before returning to recruiting.

Julie’s connection to Sterling is also a family story. Growing up in a military family, she lived in different places around the world and developed a lifelong love of travel and an appreciation for different people and perspectives. Her father eventually founded Sterling’s parent company with the goal of helping veterans find meaningful employment and later recruited Julie away from teaching to join him. She loved the work and ultimately took over the company.

For Julie, recruiting and teaching have always shared a common purpose: helping people recognize opportunities and find the path that is right for them. She finds tremendous satisfaction in opening doors for people and cheering them on, whichever direction they choose.

Outside of work, Julie is the proud mother of two daughters who attend William & Mary. She also has three dogs: Sadie (a rule following Goldendoodle), Maggie (a desperately clingy Cavapoo) and Annie (an opinionated old Maltese).

Andrea Bohannon

Andrea Bohannon brings a unique combination of international experience, military service, and healthcare knowledge to Sterling Recruiting Services.

Growing up in Germany, Andrea initially attended school to become a dental hygienist before choosing a very different path and enlisting in the German Air Force. During her military career, she served as a combat surgical nurse and deployed in support of active conflicts—experiences that gave her an extraordinary foundation in medicine, adaptability, and working calmly in demanding environments.

After transitioning to life in the United States, Andrea gained firsthand appreciation for just how challenging it can be to transfer education, medical credentials, and professional experience across international borders. Determined to rebuild her healthcare career, she returned to the dental field, working as an oral surgery assistant.

In 2021, Julie recruited Andrea to join Sterling, recognizing her extensive healthcare knowledge, ability to connect personally with doctors across the world and her exceptional work ethic. Since then, Andrea has become an invaluable member of the team, bringing a healthcare professional’s perspective to recruiting and a genuine understanding of the people behind the credentials.

Andrea speaks multiple languages and loves traveling and experiencing different cultures. She is also the proud mother of two sons who attend James Madison University and are currently taking a break from their studies to serve with the Virginia National Guard on a deployment to the Middle East.

Andrea often has a furry companion with her during her work day, Mia, a stubborn Shiba Inu who is great about hearing – when she wants to.
