Veterinarian / Co-Owner – Small Animal General Practice

JOB-5567

The Job Opportunity:
An established and growing small animal general practice is seeking a Full-Time Veterinarian / Co-Owner to join its collaborative team and participate in a meaningful equity ownership opportunity.

This position offers a veterinarian the chance to take the next step beyond traditional associate practice and become actively involved in the clinical, cultural, and long-term direction of a veterinary hospital.

The practice already has an established caseload and loyal client base, allowing the incoming veterinarian to step into a thriving clinical environment rather than building a practice from the ground up. As a co-owner, the veterinarian will have a genuine voice in decisions affecting medicine, equipment, staffing, scheduling, hospital culture, and future growth.

Clinical autonomy is central to the practice philosophy. Veterinarians are trusted to use evidence-based medicine, professional judgment, and the individual needs of each patient to determine appropriate diagnostic workups and treatment plans. The goal is to give doctors the time and independence necessary to practice thoughtful medicine and build lasting relationships with clients and patients.

The ownership model provides an opportunity to acquire a meaningful equity interest and participate in the hospital’s performance and long-term value. Leadership training, mentorship from experienced veterinary partners, and financing resources are available to support the transition into practice ownership.

Experienced veterinarians interested in moving into ownership are encouraged to apply. New graduates with a clear long-term interest in ownership may also be considered, with mentorship and professional development designed to create a thoughtful pathway toward future partnership.

Practice Information:
This established small animal general practice provides comprehensive preventive, medical, surgical, dental, and diagnostic veterinary care.

The hospital has developed a loyal client following and an established caseload with additional room for growth. This creates an opportunity for the incoming veterinarian to begin building relationships with patients and clients immediately while also helping shape the practice’s future.

Doctors are supported by credentialed veterinary technicians and an experienced veterinary support team, helping maintain efficient workflows and allowing veterinarians to devote more of their time to patient care, clinical decision-making, procedures, and client communication.

The practice’s approach to medicine emphasizes:

  • Evidence-based clinical decision-making
  • Meaningful veterinarian autonomy
  • Individualized patient care
  • Comprehensive small animal medicine
  • Routine surgery and dentistry
  • Strong veterinarian-client-patient relationships
  • Collaborative teamwork
  • Professional development and mentorship
  • Leadership growth
  • Doctor involvement in hospital decisions
  • Sustainable long-term practice growth

The practice does not rely on rigid medical protocols to replace veterinarian judgment. Doctors have the freedom to determine appropriate diagnostic and treatment plans based on each patient’s individual needs and their own professional expertise.

As a co-owner, the incoming veterinarian will also have meaningful opportunities to help determine how the hospital evolves, including decisions involving clinical resources, equipment, staffing, scheduling, and practice culture.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Provide compassionate, evidence-based veterinary care for small animal patients
  • Perform comprehensive physical examinations and wellness visits
  • Develop individualized diagnostic and treatment plans
  • Provide preventive medicine throughout all patient life stages
  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic medical conditions
  • Perform routine soft-tissue surgical procedures
  • Provide comprehensive dental care and procedures
  • Exercise appropriate clinical autonomy when developing patient care plans
  • Educate clients regarding diagnoses, treatment options, preventive medicine, nutrition, and long-term health
  • Build lasting client relationships through clear and compassionate communication
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical records
  • Collaborate with veterinary colleagues and credentialed support team members
  • Refer patients for specialty or advanced care when appropriate
  • Participate in continuing education and professional development

Leadership & Ownership Responsibilities:

  • Participate meaningfully in the clinical and strategic direction of the hospital
  • Help establish and maintain high standards for evidence-based veterinary medicine
  • Contribute to decisions regarding medical equipment and clinical resources
  • Participate in veterinarian and support team hiring decisions
  • Provide input regarding scheduling and clinical workflows
  • Help shape and maintain a positive, collaborative hospital culture
  • Support the professional development of veterinary and support team members
  • Identify opportunities to enhance or expand medical services
  • Participate in practice planning and performance discussions
  • Help guide responsible hospital growth while maintaining medical quality
  • Balance clinical priorities with thoughtful business stewardship
  • Participate in leadership development and ownership education

Job Applicant Requirements:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), VMD, or equivalent degree from an accredited institution
  • Active veterinary license or eligibility to obtain appropriate state licensure
  • Small animal general practice experience preferred
  • Comfort with routine surgery and dentistry appropriate to experience level
  • Commitment to compassionate, ethical, and evidence-based veterinary medicine
  • Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills
  • Strong interpersonal and client communication abilities
  • Collaborative approach to working with veterinary colleagues and support team members
  • Ability to practice confidently with appropriate clinical autonomy
  • Genuine interest in veterinary practice ownership
  • Interest in contributing to hospital culture and long-term practice development
  • Commitment to continuing education and professional growth

Experienced veterinarians who are prepared to move toward ownership are encouraged to apply.

New graduates with a clear interest in eventual practice ownership are also welcome to explore the opportunity. The pathway toward partnership can include clinical mentorship, leadership development, increased exposure to practice operations, and guidance from experienced veterinary owners as the veterinarian develops confidence and experience.

Compensation & Benefits May Include:

  • Competitive compensation based on experience, professional skills, clinical contributions, and leadership responsibilities
  • Competitive veterinarian compensation
  • Performance-based earning opportunities
  • Meaningful equity ownership opportunity
  • Participation in hospital performance through ownership distributions
  • Long-term equity value
  • Financing support for the ownership investment
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Retirement benefits
  • Paid time off
  • Continuing education support
  • Leadership training and development
  • Mentorship from experienced veterinary practice owners
  • Professional development resources

Transparency is an important part of the ownership process. Candidates interested in partnership can receive information regarding the ownership investment, financing options, practice performance, and historical distributions during the evaluation process, allowing them to make an informed decision about the opportunity.

For a veterinarian who wants more than a traditional associate position, this role provides the opportunity to combine clinical autonomy, evidence-based medicine, leadership, professional development, and meaningful equity ownership.

The incoming veterinarian will have the chance to join an established practice rather than start independently, contribute to decisions that directly affect the hospital, develop as a veterinary leader, and participate in the long-term success of a practice they help shape.
